HP PAVILION 14-CR SERIES keyboard

A replacement keyboard compatible with the HP PAVILION 14-CR SERIES. Depending on how the manufacturer builds this machine, it is supplied either as the bare keyboard or as the complete top case (palmrest) with the keyboard pre-fitted — the listing title states which.

Before you order

• Specifications — compare the layout (the shape of the Enter key and the bottom row are the quickest tell), backlighting and colour with your existing keyboard. Backlit and non-backlit keyboards are different parts with different cables.
• Variations — where the listing offers options such as backlit or non-backlit, or different colours, choose the variation that suits your machine rather than assuming they interchange.
• Images — check the photos against your keyboard's key shapes, the cable position underneath and, for a full top case, the port cut-outs along the sides.

Fitting

A complete top-case keyboard is the easier repair: your machine's internals move across into the new palmrest, and every keycap and the flex cable are already in place. A bare keyboard swap varies by model — on some machines it releases with a few clips and screws, on others it sits beneath the motherboard. Check a teardown for your series before choosing the bare-keyboard route, or have a repairer fit it. Once the mechanism under a key is broken, the keyboard cannot be repaired one keycap at a time; replacing it is the lasting fix.
